Whistleblower lawsuit featured in Stars and Stripes

A January 21, 2014 article by The State Newspaper’s John Monk reporting on a federal whistleblower lawsuit has been republished by the military publication Stars and Stripes.

The article reports on whistleblower claims filed in federal court that, “Since 2007, a major trucking company and an affiliate allegedly have bilked the U.S. government out of millions by making false claims about the weight of belongings of military personnel.” The defendant, Covan World-Wide Moving and its affiliate Coleman-American Moving Services, are paid by the government based on the weight of items moved, which the lawsuit claims have been “systematically falsified weight certificates, shipping records and invoices by increasing shipment weights.”

The whistleblowers, Mario Humberto Figueroa and his son, Elmer Arnulfo Figueroa, are represented by Richard A. Harpootlian and the Louthian Law Firm.

In the article, Dick Harpootlian explained that whistleblower lawsuits are an invaluable tool that “allows citizens who know of wrongdoing to bring it to federal government’s attention and recoup money lost as a result of illegal conduct.”
